Flotsam and Jetsam...
Image
We’re into day eight of the refinishing project. All is going well except for the difficulty in obtaining the supplies we need. We carry a great deal of “stuff” on board but we're short of some critical items (didn’t really plan on such major refit while underway). Numerous trips “down island”, and a local connection to a US based marine supply house, have us in pretty decent shape. We are awaiting an air shipment of six quarts of varnish (from the states) to complete the materials list. Edsel has been working hard and making good progress. My only fear is that, when complete, I’ll need to wear “dress whites” while on deck as we will look pretty “Yachty” :) :) :)
You’ll see in the pictures that much of the sanding and scraping is being done from a “cayuco” which is a dugout canoe used by the locals. “One hand for you and one for the ship”! Makes it interesting when passing boats go by leaving a wake to deal with. No matter; Edsel is dealing with it much better than we would. We have a long way to go but each day brings us closer to the end result.
On another note; we have purchased our tickets to fly home in June. We will be “home” from June 5th to the 26th. Probably two weeks in York and one week in Baltimore. Em will be in York for part of the time so we'll get to see both kids while there (can’t wait).
That’s all the news that’s fit to print at this writing. We’ll continue to add pictures and updates.
More later.
