Randy and Pat Routson spent three years sailing throughout the Bahamas and Northwestern Caribbean aboard their sailboat “Homeward Bound”. Randy’s copper sculptures are inspired by time spent snorkeling and exploring out islands fringed in white sand and azure blue waters. Copper is hand worked using hand tools and torch. Each piece is meticulously produced and finished in varying forms. These include heat tempering, chemical and natural occurring patinas as well as paint. This produces a wide variety of effects and colors before application of a clear lacquer finish. Each piece is unique.
Emily Routson now joins Randy (her father) here in her "new" home town of Charleston. Her initial offering will include custom jewlery designs in sivler and copper. Emily's fine art education ultimately led her exploration into "wearable art". Inspired by Caribbean and Central American cultures each piece is original and created using combinations of silver, copper, shell, stone and sea glass found along the way.
We have just completed our move into a new studio/shop just north of Mt. Pleasant. Our rural farmland location provides a great environment in which to create art. It's quiet, small and very comfortable. When in the area give us a call to arrange your visit. Come see the shop and have a "walk about" in the lush vegetable gardens which surround us. We'd love to show you the "compound".
We will offer our art at local festivals, art shows and select shops throughout the area. We also accept orders for commissioned work. Contact us for additional details.
This site remains under construction. That said, even when complete, its only intended purpose is to be something akin to a newsletter. We look forward to your personal "hands on" introduction to any piece you may have interest in. We are working on enhanced photo quality to better illustrate the character of each piece.
Please stop back and watch as we travel this new path forward.
Thank you,
Routson/Sellers Family
